Warhammer 40K Dreadnought 3ds max, Photoshop October 2006
I've been reading about 3D for long enough, that I thought it was about time I tried to build something more sophisticated than a chamfered box. And this is the result. My first 3D project.
It's a Warhammer 40K Dreadnought, built from eye. I didn't have any blueprints, so the proportions range from being OK, to totally way off! But this was a modelling exercise, focussing on figuring out how the EditablePoly tool worked. And in that capacity it was a success.
I learned a number of valuable lessons on this one, perhaps the most important being that it's vital to flesh out the volumes before starting in on the detail. I was busy detailing the torso before I figured out that the volume differed to that of the little plastic miniature I was using for reference... But here it is.
Clouds and background are just a quick background - this is not meant to be photoreal.
I may come back to doing some texture work on this at some point, but I'm pretty keen to take up some more challenging modelling.
Thanks for taking a look - and any feedback is appreciated.
